          广州合成材料研究院于1961年成立，原名为化学工业部合成材料老化研究所，1993年更名为化学工业部合成材料研究院，1999年7月加入中国蓝星(集团)总公司后改为现名。
      国家和广东省设在本院的机构有：化学工业合成材料老化质量监督检验中心、全国塑料标准化技术委员会老化方法分会、广东省涂料产品质量监督检验站、广东省化学试剂产品质量监督检验站。
      本院专门从事合成材料及制品（塑料、橡胶、涂料、合成纤维、粘合剂）的老化与防老化研究，塑料加工应用，合成材料助剂的开发生产与应用，精细化工产品的开发和生产。
      本院拥有先进的试验仪器，可按国际标准(ISO)、中国标准(GB)、ASTM、DIN和JIS等标准进行各种合成材料及其制品的老化试验，人工老化试验如人工气候老化、热氧老化、高低温老化、湿热老化、臭氧老化、盐雾腐蚀、氧化吸氧等试验，户内外自然老化试验如自然气候暴露、埋地腐蚀、室内贮存等试验。还进行合成材料的材质分析、性能测试、使用寿命估算等分析研究。
      本院全力扩展自有成果的产业化，主要“广燕”牌产品有：抗氧剂300及其系列、塑料功能母粒及专用料系列、涂料施工用稀释剂系列、特种橡胶剂品、气雾剂品、胶粘剂、耐老化土工材料、阻燃剂、塑料制品等，产品质量优良，市场覆盖全国，深受用户信赖。
      四十年来，本院承担多项国家下达的研究项目，获国家和省部级的科技成果40多项。同时，承担大量中外企业委托的研究项目，取得研究成果百余项，积累了丰富的经验和大量的试验数据，是我国唯一从事高分子材料老化的研究单位，在国内外高分子行业享有盛誉。

Guangzhou Research Institute of Synthetic Materials,the former Research Instituteyof Synthetic Materials Ageing of Chemical Industrial Ministry,was established in 1961，and was affiliated to China National Blue Star(Group) Co.in 1999.

In the Institute,a number of institutions have been set up by Nation or Guangdong Province,namely The Quality Supervision and Inspection Center of　Synthetic Material Ageing, The Ageing Method Subcommittee of China Plastics Standardization Technical Committee, The Guangdong Provincial Quality Supervision and Inspection Station of Paint Products and The Guangdong Provincial Quality Supervision and Inspection Station of Chemical Reagent Products.The Institute specializes in research of ageing and anti-ageing of synthetic materials(plastic, rubber, paint,synthetic fiber and adhesive) and relative products, processing and application of polymers, production and application of additives for synthetic materials,and development and production of fine chemicals.

The Institute is equipped with advanced testing equipment and measuring instruments for carrying out both artificial weathering ageing tests (including thermal-oxygen ageing,high and low temperature ageing, humid-thermal ageing,ozone ageing and salt spray corrosion)and natural weathering ageing tests (including natural exposure,corrosion of soil buried and indoor storage tesing)in accordance of ISO and ASTM standards,as well as for composition analysis,properties measurement and life time prediction on synthetic materials.

The Institute has completed a large number of research projects that were assigned by nation or entrusted by enterprises,and awarded over 40 items of prizes for scientific and technological achievement from nation,minstry and province.The Institute is a leading institution in research of ageing of synthetic materials in China.On the other hand,the Institute has commercialized a series of products based on her own scientific and technological achievements. Available products include antioxidant 300 series,plastics functional master-batches.specialty plastics materials,diluent for paint,spraying products, adhesives,anti-ageing geotechnical materials and flame retardant agent.All of the products are of good quality, well selling to all over the country and high credit.Nowadays,the Institute has become a synthesis enterprise in combination of scientific research, technology development, product production, and marketing and selling.
